Light Tackle Fishing

Most fishing charters in the Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River Lagoon or around the New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet area use light tackle spin and casting rods. This fishing equipment is great for advanced anglers down to complete novices. On a Florida light tackle fishing charter with Capt. Lemmon you will use a variety of live baits and/or lures, depending on your preference or ability. Many times you will be sight fishing schools of redfish, laid up speckled trout and snook, or rolling tarpon. At other times you will blind cast productive flats, creeks, and deeper shorelines for the same species.

Fly Fishing

Fly fishing the Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River Lagoon or around the Ponce Inlet and New Smyrna Beach area can be a challenge even for the most experienced fly fisherman. Clean, super shallow water that receives heavy fishing pressure makes for spooky trophy redfish, speckled trout and black drum. Fly fisherman generally find success using 6wt-10wt outfits in this area. Floating lines are used most of the time to fish the flats in Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River, with sinking lines more commonly used closer to Ponce Inlet. Shrimp, baitfish, crab, etc are all popular fly patterns when fly fishing in Central Florida.
