Fishing continues to be strong in Mosquito Lagoon and the New Smyrna Beach/Ponce Inlet area as we get into May 2025. Redfish continue to set the pace with good days of catching smaller redfish on the flats and giant 40” redfish in the deeper water. Snook bit well in March and April and we continue to find some when we try. Fishing for speckled trout in the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon is quickly picking up pace as they get ready to spawn over the next few months. My calendar for the next few months is quickly filling…summer is the busiest time of year! Every month will be fully booked so don’t wait till last minute.
Have you checked out my fishing report videos on Youtube? Head over to my Youtube Channel and give them a view. I break down what’s biting for us at the moment and include some photos of clients from the past month. If you want to stay in the loop subscribe to the channel and give those videos a thumbs up.
Fishing for redfish in Mosquito Lagoon and areas stretching to the north in New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet continues to be the best bite around. The past couple months we’ve primarily targeted shallow flats for schools and small groups of tailing redfish with live bait, lures and flies. Sight fishing has gotten a little tougher lately with decreased water clarity but we’re finding plenty of targets. We’re also now in that time of year though where fishing for giant redfish over 40” gets pretty good. We’re back to catching multiple trophy redfish every day and that action will remain strong all the way into early fall.
Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon is gonna be the place to be over the next few months for some great speckled trout fishing. The big gator trout are on the move! May, June, July area the months we historically always find the big ones in the 26-34” range. While we target those, we also lots of smaller trout in the 10-20” range. We routinely have days of 25+ speckled trout. While most of our action comes via live bait, we also get some on soft plastics and lures. In fact just recently we got a great 27” trout on topwater plug.
Spring and summer are also good opportunities to find some snook around the New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet area. Often times we catch them simply fishing for redfish and speckled trout other times or we can target them specifically. We trade numbers for size this time of year when fishing for snook. We caught some nice ones up to 30 inches in the backwaters during the past month, while bigger ones in the 30-40” range can be found at the local bridges and Ponce Inlet. While we’ve caught some using live bait, we’ve actually had better days throwing lures. A couple trips in the last month caught over 20 snook for the day blind casting lures.
