November is here! We are still waiting on some cold fronts to show up here in Central Florida. But it’s been spectacular fishing the past month. We’ve been catching bunches of redfish and speckled trout on the flats in Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon. Still some giant redfish, snook and some tarpon in the ICW around New Smyrna Beach and at Ponce Inlet. Things are winding down in the deep water though as a lot of the resident fish moved towards the shallows as the water cools off. November and December are a couple of my favorite months of year for just all around catching fish. We are catching a bunch already but if you get lucky with some weather fronts, the catching is ridiculous with dozens caught. Only have a few dates left through the end of 2024, get one while they last.
Recently I have been creating videos about the past month of fishing…talking about the bite and sharing some recent photos of client catches. You can find these videos on my Youtube Channel. Be sure to check them out and if you like the video’s give them a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel.
Been a pretty stellar month of fishing for redfish. We’ve been catching a couple big ones over 20 pounds in the deep water in and around Ponce Inlet. That bite is winding down though as we have got late in the fall. The better bite, however, has been in the shallow water in Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon. There’s a ton of finger mullet on the flats right now and the fish are firing on all cylinders eating them. We’ve been catching a bunch of redfish and speckled trout every day, with a few trips catching 25+. We’ve done the best fishing with live bait but have done well on lures as well. Have to cover a lot more ground with the high water to find fly casting opportunities this time of year. Redfish bite should stay pretty hot and consistent right on through the end of 2024.
While fishing the shallow water in the Lagoons we are finding some speckled trout in the mix too. Around the cold fronts we caught a handful of big ones up to 7.5 pounds, but the average speckled trout lately is in the 18-24” range. We should getting more bigger ones as we get some colder weather that will push them shallow. Live bait, plugs, or swim baits are all you need during the fall to find a trout bite. Should be pretty good bite for trout over next two months. As the winter comes on and things get colder the big trout get lethargic and it’s a little tougher to find a bite.
Snook and tarpon are still hanging in the deeper waters in New Smyrna Beach and around Ponce Inlet. Water temps and lack of cold fronts should keep them in that area for at least another month or so. A lot of the resident snook and tarpon are on the move though into the backwaters where they are gonna spend the winter. We’ll be finding big schools of snook by next month as things cool down. December and January usually yield some days of 25+ snook fishing shrimp or shrimpy lures.
