New Smyrna Beach Area - Indian River Lagoon - Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

September 30, 2025

Rolling right past the first day of fall as we head into October. Water has been super high from nearly 20” of rain late August/early September here in New Smyrna Beach. It’s been dry for a couple weeks now though and we’ve even had a little colder morning temps lately. Mosquito Lagoon has been fishing really well on the higher water with us catching lots of speckled trout again, snook on scattered shorelines, and finding schools of redfish tailing over the grass. In New Smyrna Beach and Ponce Inlet area it’s fishing the deep water for big redfish and some tarpon around the Inlet and snook and redfish biting in the dark at the bridges and docks. Those patterns will remain the same until we get into November. I have less than 10 days remain open for October and even less for November so grab a remaining date while you can!

Have you checked out my fishing report videos on Youtube? Head over to my Youtube Channel and give them a view. I break down what’s biting for us at the moment and include some photos of clients from the past month. If you want to stay in the loop subscribe to the channel and give those videos a thumbs up.

Fishing for redfish has been good whether you’re on the flats in Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon or whether you’re fishing the deep water at Ponce Inlet and the channels. Giant trophy redfish over 20 pounds are being caught in the deeper water around Ponce Inlet and in a few of the old haunts in the Lagoons. We’ll still be catching them here and there into November but it’s getting late season to focus on those. Instead we’ve been turning our attention back to the grass flats in the Mosquito Lagoon where the high water has redfish schooled up and tailing in the seagrass that once again fills much of the lagoon. Water is still clean enough to sight fish depending on the weather. We’ve been catching double digits already lately so it could be a fantastic fall! Last year in October and November I had a stretch of 3 weeks we averaged over 20 redfish every day. Look like even more fish this fall!

The influx of water into Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River over the past month has led to some good fishing for speckled trout the last couple weeks. It also helps when the wind finally blows every day. Good numbers of trout are up on the grass flats taking advantage of the fall bait run. No giant gator trout but still finding some every day up to 24-25 inches in addition to decent numbers of 15-20 inch trout. With the right weather we’ve caught a pile of them with some redfish mixed in too.

The big snook have wrapped up their spawning season and are beginning to scatter into the backwaters. The best action for snook right now is during the middle of night under cover of darkness around the New Smyrna Beach area. Otherwise it’s a scattered bite and mixed bag of sizes in backwaters and around the docks during the daytime. We’ll actually see increased action for snook after we start to get some cold fronts dropping the water temps late October and early November which will start to form some big schools.

Only have 6 days open for October and 6 days open for November…get them while you can! Don't wait until last minute. Short notice if available. Text me or call me at 386-212-4931 or even send me an email to secure a date. Read my fishing charter page to view the top reasons why you should book your trip with me today! I look forward to fishing with you soon.
